With the co-founders passion for research, NEERA (NorthEast Eye Research Associates) was established to focus on patient care and providing cutting-edge investigational options to participants that may improve treatment outcome for ongoing ocular conditions. Our experience in research and a full-time dedicated investigator will ensure proper trial oversight to provide data quality, top-notch patient care, and customer service which are valuable assets to a successfully executed clinical trial.

Dr. Ioanis “Yianni” Panagiotopoulos O.D.

Dr. Ioanis “Yianni” Panagiotopoulos, O.D.

Chief Science Officer and Lead Investigator

Dr. Yianni graduated from the University of Mass-Amherst in 2001 B.S. in Kinesiology & then from New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA, in 2007. From 2007-2022, Dr. Yianni worked at Tallman Eye Associates Ophthalmology as a general practitioner focusing on Low Vision & Neuro-Optometry. Dr. Yianni also serves as an Adjunct Clinical Faculty member of The New England College of Optometry. Dr. Yianni’s study experience includes: Dry Eye Syndrome, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, and Telescopic implants.

Naveen Rao, MD attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He received his Ophthalmology residency training at the Casey Eye Institute/Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon, and then completed fellowship training in Cornea/Anterior Segment/External Disease at Tufts Medical Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. He practices at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. Dr. Rao specializes in cornea transplantation, routine and complex cataract surgery, and anterior segment reconstruction. He is currently Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Tufts University School of Medicine. He served as the Lahey Hospital residency program director for the Tufts ophthalmology residency program from 2019-2022 and received the Tufts residents’ teaching award in 2018. He directs skills transfer sessions for AAO (intrascleral haptic fixation) and ASCRS (capsular stabilization). He received the AAO Achievement Award in 2021. He is the chair of the ONE Network Cataract Committee of AAO a member of the Cornea Committee of ASCRS, and volunteers as a board examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is the Medical Director for VisionGift East, the eye bank of Boston.

Dr. Monika Singh, M.D.

Dr. Singh graduated from The City University of New York – City College with a major in Biomedicine and a minor in Psychology and was named to both the Dean’s List and the Chancellor’s List for her academic excellence. She received her medical degree from State University of New York (SUNY) – Downstate in Brooklyn, New York. She completed her medical training in ophthalmology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where she served as chief resident and was awarded a distinction for Excellence in Ophthalmology in her final year of training. In addition to these achievements, Dr. Singh also received a prestigious Distinction in Research during residency for her research on glaucoma. She has published findings on the relationship between eye pressure and body position from her studies.

Dr. Singh is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a special interest in the treatment of allergic and dry eye disease and the management of eyelid problems.

Prior to joining the team at Monadnock Eye, Dr. Singh practiced ophthalmology in New York City and central Massachusetts.

Dr. Singh is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Women in Ophthalmology.

Dr. Khuong Nguyen, O.D.

Dr. Nguyen graduated from The New England College of Optometry in 2003 and Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry.

He is experienced in fields of Pediatric and Adult Optometry, Ocular Disease, and Contact Lenses. He specializes in Keratoconus Treatment and Corneal Refractive Therapy.

Dr. Nguyen worked at Dana Farber Cancer Institute for 4 years in the research field of Hematology Oncology. He had also done research on Multiple Sclerosis in the Neurology Department at Harvard Medical School and Macular Degeneration at Tufts University.

Dr. Nilesh M. Sheth, M.D.

Nilesh M. Sheth, MD is an Ophthalmologist as well as a Cornea and Refractive Surgery specialist. He is on staff at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI) in Boston.

Dr. Sheth performs more laser vision correction procedures than any other surgeon in New England. He has extensive experience in LASIK and other refractive surgeries such as the new surgery for loss of reading in middle age, Conductive Keratoplasty (CK). He also is trained and experienced in glaucoma care, including new laser treatments for glaucoma. 

For Dr. Sheth, helping patients preserve, maintain, and improve their vision is the most rewarding aspect of ophthalmology.

Background

Dr. Sheth is a native of the Detroit metropolitan area. He received both his Bachelors and Master’s degrees from the University of Michigan, where he graduated with honors and earned a merit scholarship. He then graduated from Wayne State Medical School with honors for all four years. He completed his internship at the Detroit Medical Center and finished his Ophthalmology residency at Summa Health System, an affiliate of the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Sheth went on to do a two-year fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Louisiana State University, the center where Refractive Surgery first began in the United States.
